Summer Reading

The Help by Kathryn Stockett is a great read for summer. It is about Southern maids in Jackson, Mississippi. The story is told through 3 viewpoints: 2 African-American maids and a wealthy young woman. I could not put this book down and finished it in about 5 days. And I have 2 kids!

Push by Sapphire is also a quick read but pretty depressing. The story is about a young, illiterate black woman who has been abused by her mother and father. She is trying to make the most out of the terrible life that has been handed to her. I was pretty shocked at some of the graphic content and parts were hard to read. But is was inspiring and hopeful.
